Oakland A's
1981

Pulling double steals, playing hit and run. Billy Ball, season two. More fun, more winning. The trouble was the asterisk at the end of the season. A strike that cancelled the middle 1/3 of the season left the A's fortunate enough to have been leading at the end of the first part of the season. They beat KC in the division play offs, but lost to the Yankees in the league series.

The asterisk on the season hurt the Cincinnati Reds more than it hurt any other team, as they finished the season with the best record in baseball, but were 1/2 a game out of first at the end of both halves. Strikes have never been good for baseball.

One of the highlights for this season for the A's was having their entire starting pitching staff on the cover of Sports Illustrated.
